A Puritan at Heart

Daily quote from the puritans

The Revenue of Faith

A renewed heart is a very Heaven in our little world, and faith is the only Sun in that Heaven. The sinner never comes to be precious, till he comes to be pious, and the value of that piety still advanceth according to the quanity of true faith, as the ring is the more considerable with the diamond. I cannot concieve of a more compendious way for any Christians full and constant revenues, than this, to get faith, and still to use it; the sum or product of which would be this: Grace and glory, Heaven and earth are ours. [Obadiah sedgwick]

Consolation in Christ's Intercession

Consolation unspeakable and glorious, even to the meanest of the Saints; when they are beset with greatest enemies and that in greatest necessities and most unable to succour themselves; know there is support that will never fail thee. Thy sin plead against thee; (1 John 2:1, 2). Here is an Advocate who pleads for thee, and will undoubtedly carry thy cause. Thy conscience that accuseth, Satan, he condemns; But they all come too late; There is one between them and home, who intercedes and make perfect satisfaction, and also full communication thereof: therefore Paul flings the gauntlet. May be thy heart and prayers and life and all seem to fail thee: here is one, who lives always and prays always and is heard always; and therefore able to save to the uttermost, them that come. [Thomas Hooker]
