A Puritan at Heart

Daily quote from the puritans

The Comfort of election

This doctrine is a doctrine of comfort, as it takes all out of ourselves, and our own deservings. Doctrines of arrogance and presumption, they are for the most part doctrines of despair, because indeed they are such as will not hold out, nor support a man when he stands in greatest need of them. But doctrines of free-grace and favour, they are doctrines of special comfort and encouragment because they reduce all to God, who is able to perform what he promises, and to do all that he undertakes. [Thomas Horton]
